Reflux & constipation?

Hello all I am looking for some advice if anyone else has come across this: My LO is 16 weeks on Thursday and seems to have established a strange pattern over the last 2 weeks. Every few days he starts to become increasingly constipated, going from (TMI alert) smooth puree poo, to playdough firm to very firm pebbles. He is quite uncomfortable with it, straining hard to go and turning really red. He is happy enough after, but it surely cannot be good for him to strain so much. I try all sorts of ...

Sleeplessness is killing me slowly :-(

Hello Greeny - you are a wonderful mum. You are there, comforting your LO all the time, strengthening this amazing bond by showing that you will always be there for him. It is the hardest when you cannot do something to resolve the issue straight away - and you are such a lovely mum by still being there for him. A trip to the GP is probably a good thing to make sure no underlying reason is giving you so much grief. My LO was very colicy and I tried tons of different things - the one that seemed ...

giving water

Hiya, another late reply: I was recently told by a pediatrician to give my LO baby Fennel tea to help with hydration and as a natural way to help his stomach. On a recent trip to Germany I found it being sold in the supermarket baby section and it is recommended from week 1 onwards! LO is getting slowly used to it, and it highlights again the differing advice.... Hope all going well xx

Moving to HIPP Organic Hungry milk

Hiya my LO has been on the HIPP organic infant (first) milk and seemed initially quite happy with it. He feeds every 2-3hrs but had started to fuss quite a lot every day around 5pm. Yesterday he was VERY unsettled all day, crying and wanting constantly feeding. I went for a long walk to the supermarket and came across their HIPP Organic hungry milk which is marketed as from birth. Being desperate to settle him yesterday I bought a pack of the ready made and it worked a treat - immediately settle...

Changing milk

HIya - for colic you could try colief: they say you can tell within a few days. I believe it does help my LO a bit, although not resolve all colic issues (I still use Infacol too) x

How establish a Routine?

Hiya guys, thank you for your replies Natural Horse – I remember you from the trimester chats – how exciting that we are now dealing with parent questions ! Bubbles, I think you Should write a baby bible – makes a lot more sense than some of the one’s I’ve read, particularly on how difficult it is at the beginning to decipher the cues! I am not really looking to establish a firm or strict time schedule – more like a broad structure for the day. I seem to have similar issues as NH in that my LO k...

How establish a Routine?

Hiya all I appreciate there are a number of threads on this subject but I seem to be particularly dense in terms of how to go about it- therefore any help would be appreciated.... My little one is 6 weeks old today and generally a pretty easy baby but I would like to introduce a little more routine (not really a schedule, though) into our life. I have read the various books and while not really wishing to be clock watching, a little more predictability would be nice. What I don't understand is h...

baby upset after eating

Hello - well, so far possibly some small improvement on the Colief - at least the crying periods are not as long. I still give infacol as well (apparently that is ok) but I had been giving that for a few weeks anyway (am a little worried he will grow up loving the taste of artificial orange flavour...). I am also working very hard at trying to catch his hunger signs before he starts crying - avoiding frustration and having a calm environment (just in case the crying is due to overstimulation) - ...

Any tips on getting my baby to settle in the evening?

Hiya, one handed typing , so sorry for short post: i've recently checked out the 5 Sxas promoted by Dr Harvey Karp. ok, another 'expert' but amazingly , the loud shhhh sound work a treat! there 's a website (happiest baby on the block) but also you tube vids which show the techniques - i recommend try the latter. xx

baby upset after eating

HIya thank you all for your messages. Yes, I am wondering if it is colic as he seems to only do the crying after feeding during the day (touch wood, so far) and I read that colic is often linked to specific day times crying... I have tried the double infacol, but no luck, am now trying colief - it is just so heart-wrenching to see him so upset: the last few days he's been crying and crying after each feed until too tired and falling asleep... will update on how colief works! mx

baby upset after eating

hello, not sure if i'm in the right section, but looking for advice (again).... my LO is 4 1/2 weeks and mixed fed. Over the last few days he's been really struggling after each bottle feed, very windy and still upset after massive burps, arching and kicking and crying unconsolably. It breaks my heart to see him so upset! i do give him infacol to help, but not sure it does...i also tried different bottles as well as giving some boob time at each feed, but nothing seems to help. further, he seems...

Sore nipples 5 min after feed? Please help

Hello all, just a quick note to raise awareness of the issue of pains: not long after my last post, the nipple pain became very severe - i felt like being sick with pain and could not even hold my LO close any more. BF took a nose dive and i ended up adding formula to feed him. Due to my wonderful midwife, i found out what was going on- i indeed have Raynauds and according to a bf specialist at the hospital it is much more common than people, incl. gp's realise. i was put on a short course of Ni...

Sore nipples 5 min after feed? Please help

Thanks again - today has been better: in fact I wondered if he was feeding enough.... Never happy! It's difficult to tell with his constant grazing, but I try to have a good 20 min feeds regularly on top of the grazing, so I figure this should be enough. He's had plenty of poos with heavy nappies and his wee is clear (he uses nappy changing as the time for target practice, hehehe) Nipples are still very sore, but the patterns is irrregular: sometimes straight after feeding, sometimes quite a lot...

Sore nipples 5 min after feed? Please help

HIya - so far, no change... nipples still really sore after each feed, although I have avoided the bra all day which makes it better (any compression seems to make it worse...) I remembered that one of my friends was diagnosed with Raynaud's (not BF related) and no, in comparison to her, I never had cold feet/hands. My HV strongly suggests to continue with the Thrush treatment, as she says it is so hard to diagnose and it wouldn't hurt LO & me.... ? Jensqui - I guess my latch is not perfect each...

Sore nipples 5 min after feed? Please help

HI macD thanks for your advice. I've come across Raynaud's Syndrome on my googling (yes, I know, it's the devil....) but thought as it is so rare it is unlikely.... I have started thrush treatment in any case - LO still is not showing any symptoms (had 2nd GP check as well) so you may be correct - and I am noticing the whole discolouration thing.... One thing I have not found online is anything suggesting treatment - other than keeping nipples warm. Any tips / advice would be great! thanks xxx

Sore nipples 5 min after feed? Please help

Hiya - thank you very much for the quick replies. I was wondering about it being thrush as I seem to have some of the symptoms. However, there is no white sheen on LO's tongue and he certainly does not fuss before taking the breast - only complains if I am not quick enough! Would these symptoms have manifested them in him by now (2-3 days later?). So far, no pains inside either. My midwife is coming around on Sunday, so I will definitely get her to check, but I wonder should I try to see the GP ...

Sore nipples 5 min after feed? Please help

HI all I am a brandnew mummy: my little one is 1wk +1day old and looking for some advice on breastfeeding. We (baby & me) have made good progress in establishing bf; after dropping ~ 12% of his birth weight, which worried me no end, he is now gaining weight steadily, always looks lovely & pink and is nice and alert - midwife quite happy with his progress. In the first few days I was happy with getting milk into him any old way, and gave little thought to positioning etc. My breasts seemed pretty...

** THIRD TRIMESTER CHAT **

Hello All just the briefest note saying hi to all, welcome to the new additions - Blessing: we are still baby buddies! My excellent news is that little baby Alexander was born on the 3 Feb at 5.57 in the morning after a 30 hour labour by c-section. We came home on Sat, but it's been non-stop since. Recovering well, although Alex needs to put on more weight after losing about 12% of his birth weight which was 6pounds 14 oz. But am loving every minute of it - he's the most beautiful little thing w...
