38 week limit for Twins??

Can anyone help?? Is there a limit on how long they will allow you to progress in a pregnancy with twins??

Everyone keeps saying to me that they will not allow you to go over 38 weeks, and I am just wondering whether any of you twin mummies and daddies know the answer to this one. I don't have another midwife appt for 2 weeks or I'd ask then.

I wasn't allowed to go past 38 weeks, think its because of the risk of placenta prevaria (sp?). xxxx

It depends on your cons- some will let you go to 40 weeks, as long as growth is normal, and liquor volume is within normal limits. Some do however say 37-38 weeks.

RE: 38 week limit for Twins??

no they should not let you go over 38 weeks, my hospital said some women have gone to 40 weeks as they didn't want a c-section (stupid women) they should think of their babies not themselves. My preg was perfect until the last week, pre emclap/high b, it does depend on different hospitals but knowing that theres isn't much room left at 38 weeks & the risk to the babies I would not have liked going over 38 weeks.

HH

if you get to 38 weeks they should induce you, I was induced at 38 wks 3 days, but M & D didn't want to come out! that's why I had a emrg c-section.They were very cautious & they checked M & D heartbeats every 20 mins, you can always ring your mw for advice, have you had your walk around the hosp yet or will that be at 30 wks?

with regular monitoring, ie daily bp check, ctg, and twice weekly scans , in some cases it is safe to go to 40 weeks, but it must be well monitored.

Thanks Girls for that, I have my walk around the hospital unit on 3rd October, just wanted to start my planning for when they may arrive!!!

Particularly thanks to Saz for giving me LGI details, I will be at LGI so looks like if I make it to 38 weeks that's when they will be coming!!

RE: 38 week limit for Twins??

My consultant would of let me go to 40 weeks if everything was fine. I had an elective c section at 38 weeks. I had a show the night before my section so my twins were ready to come out. I am pregnant again now with my fourth baby.

I heard they dont let you go passed 38 because of placenta calcification..essentially the placenta turns to rock and stops working (in rare cases I hasten to add).

Remember tho, you are the boss! You dont want to go beyond 38 weeks. dont. tell them you want induction or CS at 38 weeks and they'll oblige Im sure.

Best of luck!
