Retained products

Hi

I had my babies 2 weeks ago by emergency c section. Last Sunday I had a big bleed and was whisked to hospital in an ambulance! Spent a few hours there and had various tests done( all came back normal). Was given antibiotics and booked a scan which I had yesterday. The scan showed a small 3 by 2cm area of retained products. I have been given more abs and have another scan for 7th jun. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of this? I am really hoping that it will pass on it's own... What are my chances?

Hi bry, obviously I don't have any personal experience of this but I know it does happen. If they don't come out on their own they will help you so don't worry :hugs:

Hi Bry I had retained products after having my DD2 I had a D&C in the end and believe or not I still had retained products I will need to look back on my posts to see the size but it was fairly small and came away in time. I am sure they will either offer a D&C or as it is a small amount they might think it's better to let it come away naturally rather than you go through more surgery.

Hope you are ok though hopefully by the 7th it would of gone!

Thanks chili and maria

I really hope it does come out on it's own! Really would like to avoid more surgery if at all possible. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I have just looked and the last scan I had it was 3cm my GP wanted it out by having another D&C the cons disagreed and said it would be absorbed or come away mind you DD2 was 8 weeks old so it had been there a while!

Fingers crossed keep us posted!

Sorry to hear that you're having to go through this.

I don't have retined products but I do have a blood clot. My DS is 6 weeks old now, emergency section, and I had a large bleed on Mon. On Tue I called the hospital when I had delivered only to be told "that it was probably my period"! I didn't think that this was right and phoned NHS24 who advised me so see my GP the next morning, who arranged for me to have a scan. I was told that I had a 2cm clot and I was given antibiotics. They said that I should pass the clot and I should feel better in a couple of weeks. If I don't pass the clot they'll give me a D&C.

The bleeding has now slowed down but it's still red and, as yet, not clot.

Hope that you feel better soon Bry.

Take care,

J x

Oh lordy Bry!
:cuddle
I'm glad you are ok (!)
I hope the remnants do pass, but please make sure you keep an eye out for any signs of infection, even if you are on antibiotics (being off food, feeling hot, shivery, feeling more tired - a difficult one for a mama of twins).
Are you getting lots of visits from your midwife? If not, you can ask for more and she can make sure you are keeping well while you wait.
Hope this is over soon, and lots of love to your twinnies.

Really glad that you're much better Bry, you can now enjoy your gorgeous twins.

I had another scan on Fri as I still wasn't feeling too well and they found some retained placenta. I was given another course of antibiotics and I thankfully passed the retained products on Mon morning, which is great as it means that I don't have to go for a D&C :) I'm now hoping that my uterus will now start to shrink down, I still look about 6 months pregnant, and that I'll begin to feel a bit better. Ellis will be 2 months old next week and it's only now that I think things may have turned the corner - it's been a long time coming!
