Thermometers

Hi all

Can anyone recommend a decent thermometer please? I've got three and they are all rubbish for various reasons.

The traditional under the arm job is the only one I trust but it takes an absolute age to work (many minutes) and it's no good when you've got a wriggly toddler!

I've got an ear one that will probably be OK when Freya is older but at the moment it's too big for her and a Tommee Tippee temple one that I don't trust, it once told me Freya's temp was normal when you could tell by feeling her that she was proper poorly!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Thank you!

x

Good question Gracie. I have the TT one too and I don't trust it either. I reckon it is a degree or two out. Always say Lily's temperature is 'low'.

(BTW congratulations!)

Thanks NH!

Well, I'm glad it's not just me! I've even used it on myself and don't believe it to be accurate. Am a bit cross actually because it's not like it's a really cheapo one is it?!

hi

ive got one of those accucheck thermometers that the doctors use. it was £40 approx from boots. expensive but worth it. only takes a couple of seconds to work. even for toddlers its easy peasy. i just tell me my 20 month "ear" and he offers me his ear, he really good. all my boys are. same as medicine. the all take it off the sppon as good as gold. if 1 is ill, but the other isnt, the 1 thats well insists to lick the spoon after the ill child's had it. not ideal - but i figure the bug is already in the house so its a 50-50 chance either way for eveybody.

sorry i just rambled - hope that helps

I bought one yesterday in tesco by brother max.

It's a forehead and ear one and takes 1 second. And the readings came out with only 0.01 difference in head and ear.

The ear piece is smallish too so perfect for little ears. And it doubles up and a room temperature gauge!

We've got a Braun Thermoscan ear thermometer, about £35 from Tesco. Its the same one as my Dr's uses. It takes AA batteries. It does need to be in position for about 3-5 seconds though.

Here in Norway they are very strict about taking the temperature up the bum - they reckon that you don't get such an accurate temperature from the forehead or ear, so I have to say this is what I do and it is always spot on and accurate. Not very nice mind, but N never cries as the thermometer only goes in the back passage a tiny amount. I use a basic digital thermometer. xxx
