Newly diagnosed..

Pcos & Weight loss?

Hi ladies

On my 1st consultation at CRM for egg share I was informed I have PCOS.

(This now along with Endo, fibroids and adhesions… why couldn’t I of been born a man!!!  )

I do have the following symptoms..

Thinning hair (esp on my crown area)
Really spotty chin
And I just cannot lose any weight anymore & now it makes perfect sense. I finally had lost the 4st I had put on over the years about 2 years ago… and have watched what I have eaten ever since, but I seem to of gained weight that I now cannot shift.

Has anyone got any good diet tips that will help me here?

I have read sweetners are your worst enemy with PCOS & in all the time I was losing weight I basically ate & drank everything containing them..I have cut them out anyway due to having IVF soon but is unrefined Demerara sugar ok?

Also do I have to avoid carbs completely?

I only eat wholemeal pasta & rice anyway but should I cut it out all together?

Any help would be great..

Thank you 

Hiya

Have a look here LOSING WEIGHT WITH PCOS

Its all about losing weight with PCOS. Metformin can help as Maliah has said so it may be worth speaking to your GP about it. But Metformin won't work on its own.

Well done for losing the 4 stone by the way! Thats excellent!

The thread I've given you gives you everything you need to lose weight with PCOS.

Hi Dangermouse,

I don't know anything about losing weight with PCOS, but cutting out carbs completely doesn't sound like a good idea. I think what you're doing (i.e. switching to wholemeal) is much more sensible and healthy. Don't forget that being healthy is really important with IVF too - don't go starving yourself! If you're already on a balanced and calorie-controlled diet, maybe speaking to your GP about how metformin can help would be a good idea. Losing weight is soooo hard - here's hoping your GP can help sort a plan for you that will work. xfingers
