Weaning worries.

H/V came out on Monday with lots of brochures/booklets and recipies for weaning. I am just sooo confused. Basically the h/v is saying not to wean before 6 months which I fully understand but then some of the leaflets are saying between 4 and 7 months.

The twins were born 7 weeks only so do I start weaning at 6 months or their corrected age which would make them 8 months- in all honesty I don't think they will go that long as they seem to be constantly on the rut now and they're 17 weeks.

I just dont know what to do for the best.

What did all the other girls with premmies do???

Mine came at 35weeks hun, I spoke with my HV and she said it was fine to start weaning mine when they where 18weeks, I only started gently with root vegetables and only started giving them one meal a day for about a week and half and then up'd it to 2 meals a day until they were 6mths when I gave them 3 meals. They are doing really well and are now eating foods with lumps and finger foods no problem. Not every baby is in the whole world is the same, some will not be ready before 6mth some are ready before.

Mine were not settled even after having 8ozs including hungry baby milk. Hope this helps hun.

Thanks Melanie.
My two are on 6oz of milk now but are constantly sucking on their fingers, they just seem so hungry all the time. I tried the Cow n Gate hungry baby milk and didn't see a lot of difference tbh. Only downside to weaning is that they're not really steady enough to hold their heads up properly yet so woudnt really be able to sit in a highchair. I've got bouncy chairs but they seem to tilt back a lot.

Mine have only just started going in there highchairs hun, I used to feed them in their swing and baby bouncer. I then went onto the Bumbos and now highchair. There are some highchairs that can be used from 3mth that tilt back hun, my friend has two for her twins.

its says from 3months on the box hun. Try putting them onto 8oz and see how they seem then, they usually say when they are on 8oz and still hungry then they may be ready to wean.

Thanks Melanie - I have them stored in my Aunties loft as I got them as pressies off work and thought with the twins being born that small it would be months and months before they used them. Think i'll give them a go in a couple of weeks. What with car seats, bouncers and bumbos it'll be like DFS in my sitting room :snigger:

Ok - I'm just going to say what I did with Jamie.

He was 35weeks. And small.

I breastfed him fully until he was 6 & 1/2 months. When I expressed it was 8 oz, and I slowly moved him from breast to bottle over another 2 weeks, which made him 7 months old, and fully bottle fed. By that time he had 4 bottles of 8 oz, 4 times a day every 4 hours until bedtime at 6-7pm.

At 7 months, I started with babyrice and pureed food. I put him in a bouncer as he wasnt strong enough to hold his head up. From about 9 months he was strong enough for a bumbo, and now at 12 months is strong enough for a highchair. He loves biscuits and can self-feed those, but most of his other solids are still pureed or slightly mushy - eg oats or porridge or weetabix.

Both my boys have very strong dairy & egg allergies, so I didnt give wheat until 12 months, and have to be really careful with what I feed them.
