Really sorry to read your sad news Melba. Hope you're coping ok and getting lots of those hugs from your DD.
I've just logged on as it's our consultation tomorrow morning so thought I'd have a look for any updates on the Aberdeen page but really sorry to see this.

Hello all,

Hope its ok me posting here.

Recently told that IVF is our only option. Had a review by a different consultant who explained everything in a lot more detail. We are on the waiting list and as some of you may know it is very long :( Is there any advice on what to do meantime? Feel a bit lost with so many conflicting medical opinions.

Hope all is well with everyone and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi tazza, I am also at aberdeen. But we were privately funded so can't help with advice over the waiting list. But did want to say good luck for when it comes round. I have found them fantastic. X

Hi tazza welcome! I'm also not sure what the waiting list time is now I know we were given a date of early 2015 so decided to go private. We're starting our first cycle next week. Think the general advice is for you both to try and be as healthy as possible - it can be really overwhelming reading all these studies that say you should be taking this supplement or not taking that one! Just make sure you are taking folic acid - if there are male factor issues there is a thread on what to do to help the swimmers! We're here to help, so stay in touch ok? :)

Hi Tazza,
I'm at Aberdeen too but also self funding as we already have a little boy. Sorry I can't be of more help with regards to the waiting list but also just wanted to wish you the best of luck with everything.
Good luck to you too Michelle. Exciting to be starting your first cycle! We should hopefully be starting our first cycle soon too!
I'm just trying to cut back on caffeine and alcohol and not put on any weight! This has to be the worst time of year to be preparing for IVF! All worth it though! I've also been taking Pregnacare Conception since February but I think the standard advice is to take folic acid for 3 months before you get pregnant and then continue to take it until week 12 of pregnancy. Our consultant said that was all I really needed to take.
Good luck again!

Thank you for your replies!

Id love to go private but at the moment it is not possible, so we are stuck on the waiting list and feel a bit forgotten about. We are trying everything to be healthy, but i am unable to take folic acid due to an allergic reaction :-( to which the nurses/doctors do not seem worried. ?o(

Have any of you attended the support group that has been advertised?

Look forward to speak to you again soon

Jaybee,

It is usually held on the last monday of every month in the fertility clinic, but due to the nurses forgetting to leave the doors unlocked for it, it will be held outwith the clinic. I can post the time/date/place once arranged if you wish.

Hope all is well and look forward to hearing from you xx

Hi Rachie,
How did your treatment go? When is your test day?
I started a cycle at the start of Jan but my cycle was cancelled due to lack of response so have my follow up appt on 26th and then will hopefully get started again shortly after that.
It's been pretty quiet on here to be honest!

Hi everyone sorry for my slow response i was away on a little holiday and I had no signal. We had our test day on Friday and it was negative. It wasn't really a surprise as I started bleeding on Wednesday. We have been told we will get a follow up appointment in five weeks to go over everything and see if anything can be changed for the next try. Does anyone have any idea how long they leave you before trying again? X

Hi Rachie, so sorry about your result. It's the worst feeling to see that lonely one line. I hope ur ok. I had to wait for my third period (using the bleed after ivf as the first one). If u have any frosties they like u to use them up first. I hope ur follow up goes well. I found it helped to have a list of questions to ask as it can be an emotional time and its easy to forget what you want to ask. X x

Hi

how is everyone? i see here has been very quiet.

Had the good news that instead of having to wait until Sept 2015 for any treatment we should react the top of the list by the end of this year, due to the grants received.

Is there anyone else in the same position?

Does anyone here attend the support group advertised at Aberdeen?

Hope everyone is well.

hi cholocate100

We have not yet received an evening invite, but a letter we received stated we will be starting treatment in August, which was explained as being in treatment then, so at some point between now and then we will have the information evening!
Might be worth giving them a quick call to find out for sure.
Have you seen the adverts for the support group?

Hi Tazza

I am so confused. . been on waiting list since aug 2011 where we were told 24-30 months wait. We were at top of list in January 2013 but fertility clinic mucked us around with what treatment we were to get and now this is where we are. .just want to get treatment started. .I am hoping its a misprint on letter and we start treatment sooner. I haven't been told about any support group.

Hi chocolate

I know a few others who have been messed around by them. The waiting list seems to be a complete joke. Someone who was referred after us is due to start their NHS cycle May/June.

We were put on the list in October. Initially told 36months (Sept 2015) for start then after fighting constantly with the clinic, as they had screwed us around as well, we then have a letter stating starting August. I had to phone them as i presumed a misprint but they confirmed it. I fully understand what you mean about just wanting to start!

There is a support group at the hospital, last Monday of every month 6pm. A few of the ladies from there meet up at other convenient times for coffee and catch up.

Feel free to message me if you would like any more information, or to meet up as i have found it amazing help being able to talk to others who understand!

Hi ladies,
I know how frustrating the wait for treatment is, it just seems soooo long.
I've noticed on here and on other forums that there's appears to be differences in wait times sometimes and I was wondering about it. As it happens,my experience is nearly exactly the same as Tazza just a few months ahead.
I did wonder if the docs are looking at several factors when deciding who to treat of, and when, the waiting list, especially now they've found this extra cash.
I am guessing (but could be wrong) the might weight someone who's older andapproaching 35? Purely my speculation though.

I'd fit that category so the fact I'm now getting treatment at 34 opposed to 36 is brilliant. Hopefully treatment will work first time and it will save NHS money!!

Hi 2angels, I'm from Aberdeen so I'm really fortunate. Fingers crossed ill get through this with minimal time off work. I haven't told anyone, and all my scan times are first thing in the morning so I should be ok. It must be hard being from the highlands or islands?

Hi Tazza, oh how frustrating :-( That really is a shame. The clinic originally sent our 1st appointment letter to my old address (even though my GP had given our new address on the referral!) it wasn't until my DH called the hospital a few months later that we found out about the error.
I'm glad he did because I was just waiting patiently!! I'm too trusting that people do their jobs properly, but I guess all humans can make errors
Anyway it was obv upsetting at the time but I didn't want to dwell on it too much. The whole process is stressful enough in itself so I tried to conserve my energy.
I hope you don't mind me giving you advice but please try to find any positive in your situation. For me and DH, our wait gave us the opportunity to get married, have a honeymoon and save up a bit more. Weve also got fitter too Hopefully there's a positive there somewhere for you.

BTW, the clinic redeemed the, selves this year as they left me a voicemail to say we were at the top of the list but annoyingly I didn't get it!! I was out of the country and my network provider didn't text me saying there was a voicemail. Thankfully the clinic called a couple of weeks later as they wanted to check I got it. My experience is they genuinely want to help and make everyone's experience à positive one. Hopefully that's all your bad luck out of the way, and its all good stuff happening for you now!!!

hi ladies.

Neve777 im not sure how they are working the lists, im 27. When are you due to start treatment?

Chocolate Did the hospital clarify the estimated start date for your treatment and explain why your patient information evening is so early?

Im from Aberdeen so im also very fortunate. My boss does know and he is very supportive with needing flexitime.

Fingers crossed that all the bad experience is out of the way and the rest will be plain sailing... but i wont hold my breath!

The lady i spoke to said that is normally the case . . You start treatment straight after evening night. . But she said it just meant we wouldnt have to attend meeting in november. . Now means we will be only couple at meeting not away to start treatment. .nevermind. . Trying to stay hopefull andmaybe get some good news next week from nurse manager.

neve777 - that's great news, fingers crossed for you.

I know it is very short notice, but a few ladies are getting together tomorrow 25th April for a yap, in the evening in Aberdeen. Please let me know if you fancy it and I can give all the details.

Hi Neve777, yes it was good, had a chance to sit and chat with others. For the next meeting outwith the hospital I will try and post it much earlier so people have a chance to see it. It was very quick due to catching people going/returning from holidays.

Have you seen/attended the group set up at the clinic?

There are a few ladies all at varying stages of treatment who attend, some of the husbands come along as well.

Some of us also meet up at other times, when it is more suitable for a catch up. Its been wonderful to speak to others in the same situation/same clinic.

If you want any information about it then please message me.

Hi

I was wondering if anyone knew the private waiting times. We will have to be self funded as I all ready have a son.
My doc said he was referring us to Aberdeen, I'm a little impatient!
Thanks. X
