Avent Teats

are you really meant to change the teats (1,2,3 etc) each month for the baby? mine is now 6 weeks and still on teat 1 - will switch to 2 today but then it two weeks do i have to buy teat size 3? i guess it would be sensible to stick to the same teat size for all bottles.... not sure why this is confusing me so much!

Not 100% sure for avent as I use TT ... but the 1, 2, 3's are for 1 month, 6 months, and up to 12 months

If your LO is still taking a good feed, and doesn't seem to be struggling (either getting too much, or having to work too hard for it), then there's no need to switch till they're ready

thanks girls, my boy is a little sucky and i think i should stick to the 1's - he takes too much in and gets a bit windy - maybe its too soon to change him over....

J was very gulpy when he was younger (actually, he still is now) and would really guzzle his milk. He would then get a tummy full of air, and chuck the lot back up on the back of a burp. Only way to avoid this was to use a smaller teat than he maybe needed. He would create a better seal around the teat as he would suck so hard ... It meant he took in less air, so would be sick less often ...

my 2 came out of scbu on no2s at 3weeks, I was tild if they suck the teat flat all the time move up toa faster teat if it runs all out of the mouth it maybe to fast and so go down one.......much easier to use the Vary teats 1,2,3 you just twist the bottle so the right numbered teat is to babas nose and hey presto & if they start to sleep you can turn to 3 and sneekily get the last of the milk down. :D

Was just looking at those ... so you turn the bottle to the required number teat?? That's bloody genius :8o:

We have the TT variflow ones, which have a cross cut intht etop instead of a hole. So, the harder the baby sucks the faster the flow ... Same as those, they're between a 1 and a 3.

C used #1's till he was about 9 months old then I swapped him straight to 4's and he was fine all the way. I don't like the variflow teats at all...

i switched to number 2's after all that...i realised that my number ones had become a bit soft now and were probably the same as the new firm number twos...he hasnt noticed a thing and i think is doing better on the new number 2's as they are firmer to suck from and not letting loads of milk in.....seems i didnt realise that teats need to be thrown away as they go soft! :) - is there any part of having a baby that is not complicated?
