Leaving my boy

Well, 9 months have passed and its time to go back to work. Today is my first day, and there have been a lot of changes i think. There is a really bad atmosphere, everyone is unhappy and i was told last week that my stand in has done such a good job ass licking that she has secured her own future and when my training is complete i wont have a role where i am.

finding myself with a very difficult decision to make because although i love my job and the place where i work i am only having in house training so when i leave it wont stand for anything and ill be back at square one. do i leave? do i ride it out and hope they change their mind?

so many questions! oh well, G's been packed off to my mums for the day, i will collect him after work. best start thinking about getting ready i suppose!! xx

Ohh its a horrible day that first day back. My advice would be to give it atleast 6 weeks and see how things are once you have had a chance to settle back in. If you are unhappy after that and things dont seem to be improving then perhaps look for something else. The fact you have specialised training means you can be trained and you are adaptable to various systems!!!(you just have to make negatives into a positive) thats how you can play it and there is nothing stopping you from taking a course to upgrade your skills should you need to.

However going back to what i said its awful going back after such a long time away you may find that after a few weeks they will be so glad to have you back that things will just fall back into place. The lady who covered my maternity leave was so good that i was sick of hearing how fab she was!! However since going back we have become great friends and she is now my job share partner!!

Just take it one week at a time and see how things go

rivka - ive had no warnings in the past

mrs j - i amin the union

willow - i feel shite!

been up for most of hte night thinking about things and the more i think, the more i am convinced that i am being set up. have phoned my rep and he is coming round later, mum has G today so im settling down to get a few things down on paper and to try and figure things out. they cant even provide me with dates/people who the conversations have gone on with. i feel 100% let down by the company and am going to fight this every step of the way, i have to prove its a witch hunt.

Don't want to appear to pry but are they accusing you of gross misconduct? If not why on earth have they gone to the extent of suspending you and why on earth did they allow you to start back? Have they given you any opportunity to put your side across? Horrible situation

there is a grievance in against me from one of our drivers, and he is easily manipulated so i dont think that it is his words. and they are saying that i threatened someone with their job when i return from leave.

its complete shite, i would never be so unprofessional as to say that to someone and the grievance is crap. ive followed instruction from my boss and been made into a scapegoat.

I hope you wont mind, but I spoke to my DH about this - He is a Union steward and from what he has seen here, he says, it is so obviously a setup for constructive dismissal. It is also clear, he says, a case for libel/slander could be made, as this does put a bad mark against you, with no evidence. This is illegal and advises you speak to your union rep and also seek advice from a good solicitor, not a union solicitor as he says they are rubbish.

Good luck

healthy attitude :D

definitely sounds like they are trying to 'get rid' or force you out. probably with the downturn in the economy they cant afford to have so many staff and this seems like the worst possible way to lay people off.

any chance you can also make good use of your time by getting your CV out there and seeing what other opportunities are around?

so sorry you have to deal with this. I had a sh** time coming back as well :cross: and after two maternity leaves & bad treatment I've left the company for (fingers crossed) a much better one.

God what a nightmare and how awful. I hope your Union can help. I too thinks it's strange they can suspend you like that and I'm sure someone should have been in touch with you prior to your return to work. All seems a bit odd. Fingers crossed you get it sorted, but at least whilst you're off you can spend more time with G :hugs:

HI just thought I would pop on and say, get a really good independent employment solicitor.

There is no way they get away with this. I work in a solicitors in Liverpool, in employment law. By the way I'm only a secretary not a solicitor.

Make sure you get a specialist employment solicitor.

Been following this but not posted before. I can't believe that its over something so trivial and the way it led to an immediate suspension without any warnings. I'd seriously consider taking out a grievance about the way you've been treated when the issue itself is resolved. I know you'll likely to just want it all to be over but there has to be set procedures for disciplinary matters and I find I really hard to believe that they've followed them.

What a nightmare!

sorry to butt in but i read this and had to say that i agree with bubble - u need to conteract on this and file for a grievance.... there must be something the rep can do for you and if not u made need to speak with an employment solicitor just for your own piece of mind if nothing else. It sounds like they want to move you on quickly and quietly and you gotta get more people fighting your corner with you.

Most solicitors offer 1/2 free advice even over the phone. i say give it a go - they may not be able to help much but it's worth a try.

Sounds like they are trying to somehow lever you out by concocting a load of rubbish - I am glad you got the union and hope you get the answers to help you in this pathetic attempt. Whatever reason they have for doing this, if they didn't follow employment law to the letter, a tribunal would trample over them so that might be another avenue at a later date if they turn even nastier!
