fluoride

Hi,

just been to dentist, as I had a sensitive tooth, and he painted fluoride varnish on. I never thought to ask if I had to wait any time before b/feeding - suddenly thought about it now and couldn't find any info when I googled it. He told me not to eat or drink for an hour to let it dry. Just worried in case Lachlan gets an ultra high dose of fluoride or something ?(

I feel sure that it will be fine. Bottle fed babies are fed with fluoridated tap water day in and day out while breastfeeding Mums brush their teeth with fluoride toothpaste every day. I can't see that the amount painted onto your tooth would contribute to such a high dosage in your bloodstream to affect your breastmilk.

found this while I was looking up fluoride on google earlier......

"According to Tulane University doctoral candidate Arman Sadeghpour, an extract of cocoa powder that occurs naturally in chocolates, teas, and other products might be an effective natural alternative to fluoride in toothpaste. In fact, his research revealed that the cocoa extract was even more effective than fluoride in fighting cavities.
The extract, a white crystalline powder whose chemical makeup is similar to caffeine, helps harden teeth enamel, making users less susceptible to tooth decay. The cocoa extract could offer the first major innovation to commercial toothpaste since manufacturers began adding fluoride to toothpaste in 1914." (sciencedaily.com)

......chocolate toothpaste :D :D :D

RE: fluoride

Hi there --maybe a bit late with this , but I e-mailed dental help people and got a reply this afternoon saying that fluoride painted onto tooth is only absorbed into the tooth and because it dries quickly ,is not ingested ,therefore no chance of it passing through breastmilk . so no worries!
