Hi Lisa

I tried for a baby for three years and unfortunately we miscarried. A year later we still hadn't conceived so we underwent fertility tests.

My bloods were checked and I had a lap and dye and everything was ok with me. My husband had his tests and he was ok too. Very frustrating !!

A year after the tests I still wasn't pregnant without any explanation. In the end I asked my specialist for Clomid (prescribed to women who don't ovulate, or as a boost to the ovaries in my case,) and on my 4th cycle I got pregnant.

Sometimes there is just no reason why people don't get pregnant but I would suggest going to the doctors and having your bloods checked as a start.

Hi Lisa! Welcome to FZ and the TA section!

We found we had secondary infertility after trying for a sibling for our daughter for a while. It was confirmed that I have PCOS, and am heading for an early menopause and my DH's sperm wasn't fantastic. It was a total shock as we thought it would happen easily again for us - wrong!

After no luck on clomid we decided to give IVF a bash, and were very lucky that it worked first time, even though the odds seemed against us during the cycle. Our 2nd daughter is now 7 months old and we feel very blessed to have completed our family.

There are several ladies on the TA section who have had successfully had IF treatment so don't feel too down hearted. Perhaps you could speak to your GP for advice on the next steps or maybe if you want to take action quickly you could visit a fertility clinic near you, and they will be able to organise all appropriate tests and get the ball rolling. However, you need to consider that its unlikely you will get any funding to help you on your TTC journey as you already have a child.

Let us know how you get on.

x

We conceived naturally on the pill with our first child! and with the same partner (husband) we had to go through ICSI 5 years later for our second child. I was ok but he was found to have poor motility, mobility and morbidity, so low and poor that ICSI was the only option.

But ICSI worked for us and we now have two sons.

:goodluck: secondary infertility can be overcome hun so try to keep that in mind x

Hi Lisa,

We've had had a son who's now 5 and have been trying for 2nd one for nearly 4 years. We were unexplained until about a week ago where they said I had a low amh (ovarian reserve) but not too low, only 12.8. We've had 3 IUI all BFN and now starting IVF on June 11th, so I'll keep you posted.

I have heard a great story recently. A friend of mine had been trying for 2 years (unexplained infertility) with no luck.. She's just been through 2 lots of IVF, first one BFN, 2nd one BFP with twins but lost them both at 10 weeks, she's just been using 'pre seed' lubricant gel as its suppose to help the cervial fluid, and she's fell pregnant naturally! So look it up on the internet, its worth a try! We would but we're booked in already for IVF.

Good luck

secondary infertility

Hello, Im relatively new to FZ, but had some great responses to my last thread. Ive been TTC for a year (2 years prior to miscarriage) and have recently been advised to use pre-seed gel. Does anyone have experience with this and/or success stories?

RE: secondary infertility

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to FZ.

I have posted a couple of times about my reservations about the use of Pre-seed. I was not very impressed when I looked at their website as most of the praise about this product seemed to be coming from just two women only. This may have changed since I last looked last year.

It is true that some lubricants are hostile to sperm and should be used with care, and it may be that Pre-seed is better than most in this respect. However unless it is really essential it is better not to use a lubricant when trying to conceive.

The best medium by far for sperm to be in is good pre-ovulatory cervical mucus. This contains fructose and zinc which encourage motility and help to keep sperm alive in the cervix. Cervical mucus also encourages hyper-activation of tail movement which is part of the process known as capacitation, which is the priming which sperm have to undergo to prepare for egg attachment and penetration. Cervical mucus is sticky and once sperm have penetrated into it, they are retained within the mucus attached to, and within the cervix. Finally mucus has a sub-visible linear structure which guides sperm along the cervix, or into 'crypts' along its length, from where they are later released.

Non of these valuable functions are provided by Pre-seed as far as I can see. The use of too much Pre-seed or any other lubricant will dilute down the mucus at the entrance to the cervix and impair its functioning in these very correct and vital roles.

So use this if you feel it helps with love-making but use it sparingly to ensure that the sperm are able to get into the mucus and not just swimming around in Pre-seed.

Good luck to you in your efforts.

Secondary Infertility

Hi Lisa

I took 2 and a bit years TTC DS who is now 5. Tried from him being 1 to conceive again. Had m/c just before his 3rd birthday. All tests confirm DH is fine and has no problems. I have been diagnosed with PCOS. I have recently had lap and dye to check tubes and they were fine. Diagnosed endo which was removed during the op. Am waiting for CD21 bloods (tomorrow) after being put back on clomid @ 50mg.

Been told at my last appt that infertility decreases with age (am now 36) and was given price for IUI and IVF privately - not what I wanted to hear I may hasten to add. In another 5 months at the end of my current lot of clomid then I need to make the decision what I do next.

Worse thing for me is my baby desperately wants a brother or a sister and keeps saying when I get a brother and a sister - how do you explain to a 5 year old that there may not be a brother or a sister? I keep going for him.

Wishing you lots of luck & hugs alot of us know how you feel!

Take care
Kxx

Hello! I have two children both conceived super easily 1 and 2 months (one accidently after a xmas party) :-). Had 2 c sections all went well. Boys are 2 and 4 now. I am now 34 but was about to turn 30 when first was born and was 32 when second was born so technically there should not be such a huge difference in fertility due to egg quality (I started trying just before 33rd bday again). However we have now been trying 15 months and nothing..... I have my appointment on 28 of september so will let you know how it turns out... it's always good to get an idea! My oldest little boy has a little friend with two younger brothers so always asks if he can have another smaller brother! :-) Good luck with everything... Secondary infertility is really hard. I never realised before.
