Suggestions for Poems

I am having my baby book custom made and I would like a poem to go inside the front cover, ideally one that kind of sums up the journey we've been on and the one that will contune throughout his life but I'm open to suggestions. I have scoured the internet but not found anything remotely suitable, does anyone have any suggestions? I did try writing one but I'm rubbish at poetry so it ended up sounding like the inside of a greetings card :(

LOL if I tried to write one it would be sickenly sweet and over the top pmsl

What a lovely idea though. I have a poem that I'm going to read it at the boys Christening as I feel it's about beating the odds and perserverance which summs up to me how we got our little treasures and how I want them to face life IYKWIM!

anyway here it is:

Follow Your Dreams
When others say "It's hopeless and it really can't be done."
When they tell you "It's all over. It's a race that can't be won."
And they promise "You could spend your life just lying in the sun."
Follow your dreams boy. Follow your dreams!
When the people you admire, but who wouldn't understand,
Tell you "Other roads are safer. Your dreams are much too grand."
Or the doubters and the tempters try to take you by the hand.
Follow your dreams boy. Follow your dreams!
You should listen to the counsel of the people that you trust.
But don't be turned aside just because they might get fussed
You live the life that in your heart you know you really must.
Follow your dreams boy. Follow your dreams!
There is nothing you can't conquer if you believe you can.
No mountains you can't straddle, no oceans you can't span.
Just conjure up a vision and set yourself a plan.
Follow your dreams boy. Follow your dreams!

Hi Grace :D

Not sure if this fits your criteria but a family member sent me a poem for Tegan and Jasper and this was Jasper's which I think is lovely smile2 (it's from the chicken soup for the soul series)

Blessed are the pure in heart.
So often we are told
Of saints whose names and daily deeds
Inscribed in books of gold
Are certain to be seeing God
In well-rewarding joy -
But when I see the pure in heart
I see a little boy.

He shins up trees and barks his knees,
Has lizards in a box;
He loves to read of dinosaurs,
Collects bright-colored rocks.
His grubby hands are gentle
On the coats of dogs and birds,
And he has a quiet wisdom in naivety of words.
I listen to his little prayers
At night with quiet joy -
And when I hear the pure in heart
I hear a little boy.

He hasn't reached the age as yet
To question and to doubt;
He gravely takes his mother's words,
And that's what life's about.
Each day is gold, a shining thing
Without a wrong alloy -
And when I hold the pure in heart
I hold a little boy.

Hi Duffy, GREAT to see you on here again and in the parenting section!!

Thanks for the poem it's really beautiful!

The poem I went with in the end was:

I think I’ll journey out some day to wondrous lands afar,
Or even chart a journey to a distant blazing star.
But rest assured that where my journey sees to take me to,
Always know that when I go, this journey takes you too.

Duffy, your poem has me in tears, it's so lovely. All I could think of is my adorable nephew. He is almost 4 and he is fighting leukaemia, and winning I'm glad to say. That poem sums him up perfectly!

Grace the one you chose is beautiful too. xx
