7oz at 3 months??

Hiya,

I've just put O's feeds up to 7oz cos she was finishing off the 6oz and wanting a bit more.

She has gained weight loads! Gone from 25th centile when born to 75th in 11 weeks.

Have I done the right thing? I suppose I'm just after a bit of reassurance that I'm not over feeding her or anything.

Hi Flic! Can't honestly remember what my 2 were taking at 3 months but that sounds about right as the amount grows, then peaks before you wean her in a few months. And really, you just need to do what she's telling you she needs, and by the sound of it, she was still hungry after 6 oz!!!

x

Hi Flic,

My G was exactly the same! She was hungry all the time at around 3 months (still is in fact!) and could drink anything from 6-9oz per feed - every 2.5-3 hours. I talked to my HV about it as I was worried about over-feeding, but she wasn't at all concerned. So on her advice we gradually switched her over to a hungry baby formula which bought us a bit longer between feeds. At about 17 weeks, she started waking in the night twice again as she was just so hungry - I started her on some solids for a couple of weeks which did the trick - but after a bout of constipation, she started to refuse it so we have stopped again. At the minute she's still taking enormous amounts of hungry milk frequently and growing like billio but sleeping the night through.

So to get to the point (sorry!) don't worry about overfeeding at this stage, she is obviously letting you know what she needs so follow her lead xx

Ah, thanks girls.

She's had almost the full 7oz bottles today. She's had 3 so far and will have one soon before bed so she is going a bit longer inbetween which is great!!

I did think about hungry baby milk, will speak to the HV after this week to see how she goes.

Rest assured she will let you know how much she wants.

As long as she isn't being sick after the feeds its very unlikely she will be having too much.

Every baby is different- KJ started on the 25th centile and quickly progressed to the 91st but very rarely takes more than 6ozs at a time and is still on number 1 milk.

Just follow your instinct and she will tell you if she is unhappy.

Sounds like you doing a great job.x

Hiya, Thanks Kat and Gemma,

I spoke to the HV about hungrier baby milk and she said that sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and it can make them constipated so I'm gonna just stick to the normal one.

She's now 15lb 6oz (as of Friday) And getting bigger and bigger!!
