How many bottles?

Tj is nearly 11 weeks and he is taking 5, 8oz bottles a day.
I have just been to get him weighed and he is 15lb 11oz. The woman said she was concerned about his weight as he has nearly doubled his
Birth weight already. She said she would need to speak to the health visitor.
She told me not to give him as much milk and give him water instead. She also says he is at risk of childhood obesity and heart disease.

I am actually worried now and she really scared me.
But what am I supposed to do if my baby Is hungry ?

Hi Kat,
I'd go to speak to your GP about this.
I can't see how you can reduce the amount of milk an 11 week old baby wants, and it also seems a bit early to be giving water.
Try not to worry! TJ is obviously thriving and you are taking excellent care of him,

Hiya,

Is he downing every bottle or does he sometimes just have a few oz of one? My HV told me that if O was only drinking 3 - 4 oz of a 7 oz bottle then it could be that she's thirsty hence the water. But like Mavis said, he's only 11 weeks old.

Speak to your GP chck.

:hugs:

HI MAVIS AND FLIC,

thanks for the replies. Yes TJ takes the full 8oz almost every time. He has actually only been on 8oz since last week, he usually downs the whole lot. On 2 of his feeds he only took 6oz yesterday but then the rest of the feeds he took 8.

I am going to cut him down to 7oz and see how he gets on. He has his first injection tomorrow so will speak to the gp about him then, its really worrying, i dont want him to end up being a big baby, but if he is hungry what else can i do?

Could he be having a growth spurt do you think?

I bet he's having a growth spurt. When O started doing that I thought 'OMG, where is she putting it all?!'

She's now 'normally' on 7oz bottles about 5 - 6 a day. Sometimes she finishes it all, other times she leaves an ounce. Also in the run up to bedtime she feeds a lot more, so tonight she's had a 7oz bottle at 5.30 then 5.5oz at half 7. Think she's stocking up for the night.

See how he goes during the week chick. But if you're in any doubt go see your GP and see what they think.

Reduce the amount of milk you feed him to 7 oz only and substitute the remaining to water.

Do you think, it is also possible that your baby is not hungry at all when you feed him? Let say an instance where he's feeling cold or hot or something that affects his moods.
