Thanks CT I have that open now and will see what I can find!

AG I've been making porridge fingers sounds similar I guess? Added raisins into them and found myself eating the leftovers and quite enjoying it, might start having that instead of muesli bars!

Gemma one thing I was told was wait til after 6months before giving anything that might cause allergies, as DH has a shellfish allergy (not that I'm giving them shellfish!! yep oysters for my two only the best!!) but if there is a history of allergies then best to wait. Someone went one further and said don't give wheat based food til 7months for much the same reason and as it gives more time for lining of digestive tract to cope with it. I waited til a week past 6months and then added in the toast so didn't wait til 7months as that seemed excessive. You could always add one thing every few days and see how he copes with the eggs over a few days like that?
sounds like you made tuna fishcakes, yum!

Omg my little man loves crossiants!!!!!

So a question about timing. He got up at eight, had 8ozs milk, then went to sleep nine till half ten and then I gave him a crossiant and water in a sippy cup.

Does that seem right for his age?

I wish you could all see the butter all round his face in his high chair- its hilarious!!!!

I used to do milk and then food an hour later to get 3 meals a day in. More to get her used to the routine of it really!

I'm following Flic's routine too!!
Milk at 8.30, 11.30, 3.30, 7.30, Breakfast at 9, Lunch at 12ish, Dinner at 6.
It's breakfast that I'm struggling with at the mo, as that time flies by and they're knackered so quickly, but I'm guessing in time that will get easier, so I'm not stressing too much (and chanting 'food is for fun til the age of 1'!!)
Croissant, now I love them but haven't tried them yet, I tried pitta with avocado spread in it, I liked it, they just smeared it all over everything! I don't think they get the point of avocado, think it's face cream or something!

When did O start dropping feeds? I'm still trying to bf (like some mad woman!) but then top up with formula. So they get about 500mls of formula, which is such a small amount compared to what the packaging says but then I don't know how much breast milk they get, so the worry is all my own doing! Plus they're eating way more food than I ever expected at this age that I think they're cutting down their milk themselves some days/feeds more than others.
Seriously why don't babies come with instruction manuals?! I have wondered whether if we checked the placenta there'd be something in writing in there!! Like 'this baby will not eat spinach so don't bother, but apricots are good to go!'

FB please don't worry about the packaging. According to the packaging Cobi should be on 35ozs for his age and height but he only drinks about 28ozs. He has never drunk more and is 19lbs now so he's not exactly starving lol

:hello:

It's nice to see this thread back up and running, it was really useful for me when I was weaning Freya.

I used to stress hugely about how much Freya would eat and drink as the amounts seemed to be tiny but a year on she is thriving (and I still worry but not half as much). They WILL take on enough for what they personally need. Despite what I think Freya is actually getting bigger and I am so pleased I did BLW rather than faff about with purees.

:goodluck: to you all!

I dropped feeds gradually. The amount she drank milk wise decreased as time went on to the point when I figured it wasn't worth making milk up so just stopped and gave fruit for snacks instead.

I bottle fed on demand and just sort of went with it.

I worried much more about amounts with kj but I only have to look at Cobi to see he is thriving and he wouldn't sleep all night if he was hungry. So that's good enough for me.

Amazing how more relaxed we are with the second baby.x

I'm not! Oh alright twins don't count!

I know they're growing fine, last weigh in was ok they're plotting their own little lines (I tell DS that according to the graph that all other babies are bigger than him as he plots well under the bottom centile) I also know that DS is skinny as anything but doesn't stop moving, always wriggling, never stays where you leave him so I'm thinking he burns off all he consumes.

Stop worrying FB right?!

The thing to remember is that milk is the key. Babies come in all shapes and sizes just like we do!

Before I started weaning the HV thought that I'd already started weaning because O was a real chubber!! And my friend who started weaning with purée's at 14 weeks, her LO is a right skinny mini!! But I was a chubber when I was a baby and my friend was always thin.

We will worry. It's normal. If you didn't worry then there would be something wrong.

If I didn't worry you would be calling social services!!

I've had issues with MIL lots up til now, and I've been swearing that I won't be like that when I'm a MIL, then thinking what if I don't get on with their choice of partner, then realising that I have just married off my babies and they can't even crawl/sit yet!! Insanity/worry/crazy momma behaviour!!! I'm going to stick to thinking of what to cook for dinner and stop the long term planning!!

:hello:

Well, I've just started to wean Poppy in earnest and tonight she tucked into frusilli pasta and home made veggie sauce with a bit of cheese thrown in for good measure. She got in a hell of a mess and had a lovely time and may even have actually eaten a bit of it.

We've been giving her bits of this and that for the last month or so as she's been so interested in food. So far she's had sticks of cucumber, tomato, broccoli, carrot, strawberries, melon, chicken, yoghurt and banana.

My MIL is convinced she is going to choke and every time she sees her eat makes some comment about giving her pureed something or another but I just say yes and let it all go over my head.

Any other BLWers out there at the moment?

My mum refused to do this with Cobi cause she said he was gonna choke. Every time he coughed she would scream he was choking. My answer is if he's making a noise he isn't choking.

He's never properly choked once 'touchwood'

Hi Gracie

I didn't do blw however I sort of missed out the puree stage and went straight to lumpy food then solids, I did get strange looks when my ds would eat normal food like spag bol and sausage and mash, he's had the odd cough but nothing that has alarmed me, he is prone to stuffing far too much in his mouth but he soon realises it's too much and some comes back out :)

MILs and their funny ideas. Mine is lovely but seemed to believe that my daughters were a different species and therefore needed different food to other people. I'd get odd questions like 'can she have chicken?' er, yes, and 'I put a bit of butter on her bread, I hope that was ok?'!!! She liked baby food in jars because all the decisions had been made for her.

There is a big difference between gagging and choking. Gagging is a normal reflex we all have when a big bit of unchewed banana hits the back of your throat, or when Justin Bieber appears on the tv. It's a protective mechanism to stop us swallowing too much in one go, or to remind us why God gave us remote controls. Babies do it too, and IMO they need to so it a few times to learn how it works. One of the advantages of BLW is that they learn very quickly how to move food around in their mouths and gagging is part of that. Choking is when something blocks the airway and is a completely different kettle of fish. If this happens (it's not that common), your child will turn very quickly blue and you need to pick them up, turn them upside down and GENTLY pat them on the back until it's dislodged. Then pour yourself a large gin.

Ah Jasper, I keep correcting everyone who uses the word choke when they should be saying gag, drives me mad! Anyway, I don't care what anyone else thinks! Tonight Poppy tucked into Venison casserole, mash, green beans and broccoli and she loved every second of it. Yes, she made a terrible mess, and no she didn't actually consume a great deal of it but she learnt how to deal with a green bean and hold and suck on a piece of meat.

My Mum had dinner with us and she's from the old 'spoon and chin scrape' camp but she thought it was fab!

Oh and Jasper, hilarious post! :snigger:
