Sucking thumb during meal times

Hi. My LO is just over 8 months and has been weaned since 6 months. He's got a great appetite and does a mix of BLW and spoonfeeding - we went straight to lumps (no purees). For the last few days he's been putting his thumb in his mouth between each spoonful (not as bad when he as finger food) and I sometimes need to pull it out to get him to eat more. He has no teeth yet so not sure if it could be related to that or maybe he's just tired?

Any advice?

Thanks,
Nikki x

Hi Nikki

My DD2 sucks her fingers for comfort a lot since she was a few weeks old. We're weaning her the same as you so she has a mixture of spoon feeding and BLW and she tends to sucks her fingers during meal times if she's tired or had enough of eating, she also sucks them more when being spoon fed which I think is because it's normally only yoghurt and it's easier to swallow when she's sucking.

Not sure if this helps but you're not alone.

Hi Hon

It is perfectly normal. He is making the most of the taste in his mouth. Touch and taste are his thing at the moment. Besides visuals and sound that is.
He will stop soon enough and just open that mouth for more yums.

Hiya,

We did BLW and if she was tired she would suck her fingers. She sucks them whenever she's tired. She still does it now if she's eating and is hungry.

I think it's totally normal.

We're using cutlery now and sometimes if she's tired she will suck her fingers inbetween trying to get the stuff on her fork/spoon and in her mouth!

Our miracle was born on 25.02.2010!!

He's still doing it, think he's tired too as he rubs his eyes and smears food all over his face too :snigger:
