Moderate or severe ohss?

Hey,

I had 27 eggs out on weds (on egg sharing scheme) and consultant gave me cabergoline to stop OHSS.

My clinic are stopping ET as my right ovary is measuring at 11.5cm and left at 8.5. I feel very sick (mainly in the afternoons) bad headaches and generally drained all the time.

Does anyone know if that is moderate or severe ohss? Whether i should go to hospital?
I had mild OHSS on last cycle, i only produced 16 eggs. This time i have produced nearly double.

Thanks

1st IVF in Feb 2012 = :BFP: but sadly a MMC @ 9.5 weeks :sniff:

The best people to ask is your clinic and if you feel unwell I would go to hospital.

I found this info:
Whereas in the case of those who have OHSS following ovulation induction the size of the ovaries is a useful indicator of the severity of the condition, this does not apply to women who had undergone follicular aspiration, in whom the severe forms of the condition may coexist with relatively minor ovarian enlargement. Thus, ovarian size, the most important factor when ovulation induction is the only technique, is not definitive with assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures, and the classification of OHSS in patients undergoing ART cycles should rely more on the clinical picture and laboratory parameters and not on ovarian enlargement.

OHSS is classified as (1) mild (2) moderate (3) severe. The severe form may be further sub-classified based on the severity into a critical state.

Mild OHSS is characterized by cystic ovarian enlargement up to 5 cm.

Moderate OHSS is defined by ovarian enlargement between 5 and 12 cm accompanied by: Gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating,
Abdominal distension with tenderness, nausea, vomiting and/or  diarrhea.
Dyspnea at some degree
US examination of the pelvis often reveals moderate amounts of fluid.

Severe OHSS comprises massive ovarian enlargement greater than 12 cm, and/or symptoms and signs of moderate OHSS which are more pronounced  and often associated with clinical evidence of intravascular fluid loss. One or more of the following clinical signs are present:
Ascites,
Pleural effusion,
Pericardial effusion,
Anasarca,
Abdominal pain,
Electrolyte imbalance,
Hypovolemia,
Oliguria,
ARDS,
Thromboembolic phenomena,
Hypovolemic shock
(I don't know what some of these are!)

With my first ivf I had moderate ohss (the hospital told me that!) with only 5 follicles. This was due to me having a bfp after the ivf. That is why your clinic has cancelled ET.

Again if you are unwell contact a medical professional.
Take care.

They will know what to do, so don't worry.
If you look at what I have written above, they would rely on bloods as your follicles have been aspirated to collect your eggs. Just make sure you contact them if you are feeling unwell or are not sure.

That's great that you're going ahead with ET. I had severe OHSS on my first cycle and had a BFP. I only had 17 eggs but they said its not always down to numbers but sizes. I was in hospital for two weeks and had 5 litres of fluid drained.

Good luck for ET and I hope you feel better very soon, drink lots of water and eat plenty of protein. Keep an eye on how much you are weeing, if it doesn't seem much to what you're drinking let your clinic know xxx
