Redundancy when on maternity leave

So, i had the call we all dread this morning.....my role is redundant and there will be a selection process to fill the new roles which are full time. I am part time and only want to work part time so I think this is only going to end one way!I had been there 13 years so should get a healthy pay off but I still feel very sad about it. Is there anything in particular I should be aware of as I am 8 months in to my maternity leave, I had already confirmed that I would be taking a year returning on the same hours. ?o( :-( ;(

Hiya,
I was made redundant whilst on maternity, going from a full time role into what I wanted as part time. They had me in and tried to find me a new job. I also got to take all my leave so I had a month of full pay and extra as they gave me time to find a new job.

I would speak to your HR department and find out exactly where you stand.

I have a meeting this afternoon to discuss options. I am really annoyed as they seem to have an issue with part time because of a few people that have.nt managed their work load very well, I achieved excellent results last year when I worked part time and I will be reminding them of that later!!! It will be my first meeting with my new boss, today was the first time i have ever spoken to him!! Seems like a nice bloke though!!

If only I could see in to the future and see how things would pan out!! I had better go and look in my wardrobe for some smart clothes now, wonder if any still fit!!?x

For me it worked out to be a good thing, I've gone back to uni and I'm doing a law degree part time and working in a solicitors.

I know you can have someone else in with you when you have your meeting, to take notes and stuff.

Hope you find something to wear! And if not go treat yourself!

Good luck Jasper, what a rotten thing to happen on maternity leave. It's the last thing you want to worry about.

Thinking of you

Thank you. Meeting was ok, and I am considering applying for a full time role which would be a promotion. I just feel very uncomfortable about full ti e childcare for my children. ;(

What would full time actually mean childcare wise? Could you do flexible working? There are all sorts of things they could do to help. I think you can even request flexible working or do some work from home?

There's so much to consider. My LO will be in preschool 3 days a week from April and with my mum one day a week so I can work and go to Uni. It's hard to juggle everything.

I am thinking 2 days at nursery and 3 days at a childminder, 8.30 -5.30. Even with the funding for 3 year old's its young to cost nearly £350 per week!!!

When I returned to work after having DS i requested flexible working and it was agreed and I worked 4 days a week 8-3 which was fab. They have now decided that part time working doesn't suit the needs of the business unless it is on a job share basis. I do not want to job share as half a week would not work financially as my hourly rate is so low after childcare, also I am a control freak and would struggle sharing my work!!!
The job does need to be office based but I don't really agree that I need to be thete all week, particularly as i would have an assistant. I think I will apply for the job, hopefully get it and then discuss hours in more detail, maybe slighty longer longer hours at the start of the week and shorter on a thus and Fri. I work as a planner in Logistics, the early part of the day and early part of the week are much busier. I would be twidling my thumbs on a Friday afternoon!
I can do the job on a 4 week trial but I am going to ask them to extend it as this is standard and I would like extra time to allow for the fact that I will have been off for 14 months. Oh decision decisions!!!

I was advised that they will want to interview me, but from my quick bit of online research it seems I am exempt from any selection process and do not have to be interviewed, anyone have any experience of this?

I've been told I'm being made redundant today. My problem is finding a job I can work around my LO.

What??Horrible isn't it. I have kind of resigned myself to the fact I am going to have to work full time to keep the job I enjoy. Are thereby other jobs you can go for in the company ? :hugs:

Nope, she's shutting the company. There's only my boss, her PA and me. Totally shit.
