Stopping breastfeeding

Just wondering, how long does it take for your milk to dry up. I haven't consciously stopped, just been doing night time for the past few months, she stopped herself in the morning. Then dd1 has been poorly recently so haven't fed dd2 for 3 nights, thought maybe it's a good thing and I should stop, she is 26 months, but now I am getting cold feet and don't want to stop....

Well done for feeding 26 months  I think if you go with what E wants, perhaps changing your routine in the evening will help to stop but if you & E want to continue then why not. You have to do what you think is right honey. R xx

Thanks hon, another night without...so I guess that's what I'm doing... It makes me feel so sad, cried this evening, so silly because I am really happy with having done it this long and I don't want to carry on until she's 3 or whatever, just love it, and the realisation that it probably is the last time I will be doing it. I am still holding out the teeniest bit of hope that maybe in a year or two, but tbh I don't think DH will let me :( cxx

Aw I so understand. I cried when I stopped at 15 months. My milk mainly dried up after a few days but had a bit for a few weeks afterwards. It's such a special bond it's a real wrench to stop. Massive pat on the back for doing it for so long. Xxx

Thanks Net, that's 5 nights now...guess that's what I'm doing...and she hasn't asked for it so I just need to move on I suppose, it isn't sitting right at all though :( I guess Xmas time is a good distraction too? Xx

My DD didn't ask once either - I took that as a sign she was ready ( that helped me get over my sadness anyway!) . Xmas will definitely be a good distraction - big hug I know what a wrench it is xx

Thanks Net x

I read somewhere that it can take 7-10 days for your milk to dry up and that got me thinking...start again? But I presume that is when you have lots, I was only doing a little bedtime feed... Plus not fair on her as she seems absolutely fine with it not being there anymore and that would just confuse her...

I'll stop going on about it now...it's got to happen sometime... :( xxxx
