Car Seats

E is rapidly expanding hence the need to the next up car seat. She's 5 months today so any ideas/recommendations on what sort I should go for next?

Haven't had the chance to look yet but any help is, urm, helpful!

one thing I would say is make sure you get one that can recline - so that when your little ones fall asleep you can lay them back slightly - I've still got one of Callum's car seats and its a Britax and can recline - just have to get one more (its a lot easier having one in each car than having to move the car seat all the time)

lisa - I've had a look at the Nania (not Narnia as I said earlier  ), they look ideal and a brill price too - just worried it won't fit into the car. We have a vectra and half the ones in Mothercare wouldn't fit!

we have a scenic but we have a place here where they test loads of brands of car seats that will fit your car so I'm hoping they have a Nania one in as I really can't afford (but will have too!) £100.00 per car seat & then they may be £150.00 each!!! great! have you tried Halfords for a fitting?

No - have thought about going there though. Do they stock Nania's there? We are running out of dosh fast here! Have a holiday to pay for, a window to pay for and a christening venue to pay for! I didn't realise how desperately we needed a new seat for her until we put her in her romper suit - she nearly got stuck in it!

it's a 0-6 months one - the others just didn't fit into the car!

Looked at the Halfords webpage and they have some offers on. I would like one to last up to 4 years and Argos have one of those. Will have a look in Mothercare all the same as they sometimes have offers on too.

I went to John Lewis the other day to check this out - M is nearly 9 months she currently has a Maxi Cosi Cabrio rear facing which is safe to use till 15 months or 13kg after chatting to the lady in the shop I will be keeping M in it for as long as I can, rear facing car seats are the safest way to travel. They really need to stay in a rear facing car seat till they are able to sit up unaided for at least 20 mins.

I am buying the maxi cosi again I know it's expensive but I read the "which" report I can't not buy it now!

yes chilli your right they are the safest & maxi cosi do get most ratings & prob are the most popular but far to expensive when I have to buy 2! I may go to john lewis then but how they gonna know what fits, do they do a fitting service at Bluewater? I'm gonna wait until M&D head starts to reach top of car seat before I buy the next stage!

lisa i know its not bluewater but the big mothercare in thurrock does a fitting service. most people buy two car seats now anyway these days (easier than moving the cr seat from one car to the other!! don't bother with toys r us. they are supposed to be trained but they aren't trained in isofix. now i have an isofix one i will not go back- it is so secure it feels much, much safer. I knwo car seats are expensive but i just won't compromise on them as its so important.

my Britax car seats go upto 9 months or 29lbs so I have ages yet as M&D are 19lb 13oz, so I can breathe a little!! before spending £329.98 if we go for the Maxi Cosi Tobi's but I really love this pattern http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/maxcosprioxphapflr?No=0&N=371

& this one http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/hapyflowto…cosy?No=0&N=371

I've been to Mothercare today for a fitting of car seats & the lady was so helpful & gave me some gret advice, & kept saying "DO NOT BUY NEW CAR SEATS UNTIL M&D HEADS TOUCH THE TOP OF OUR BRITAX BABYSURE SEATS", there4, I have saved ourselves £260.00 for now, our Britax ones go upto 29lbs so M&D have a long way yet! so she fitted the Maxi Cosi XP Priori & they fit perfect, (Pink Happy Flower Kiddicare.com) they are massive compaired to our little ones. She said just because babies are 20lbs doesn't mean they can swap to a new seat, we have to wait until they reach the weight of the newborn seat.

She had one girl in there, baby was 14 months & 22lbs & advised her to wait until she reaches 29lbs. She explained that the risk of forward facing is very great & their spine can snap. I was very scared at that point! rear facing is the best way to travel until they reach the max weight.

So just some advice for you all. :D

I suppose everyone reads different things but she was a car seat fitter so I'm going with her! if their head doesn't go over the top of the car seat then do not get a new one, I won't be wating until mine reach 29lbs just will wait until their heads reach the top, I looked at Daisy in hers today & her head just nealry touches the label. So I would say I will order the Maxi Cosi Prioi XP in 2-3 months.

Yours is nice, so your thinking of another as you haven't choosen PINK!!!

I went out to enquire about the right time to buy a new baby seat. I was told by Halfords and Mothercare that once babys head starts to come above the back of the seat and they are 20lbs (or max for your make of car seat) then they should go into front facing.

C is 21lb and is 8 months, her head is about 3 inches above the top of her seat so I was advised to definately put her in the front facing seat. He said if her head wasn't above the top of the back of the seat then he would suggest to wait a bit, but he advised for me to get a seat. So did Halfords.

I got the maxi cosi Priori XP. I too have the same car as Lisa and it fits solid, he said its probably the best fit he has seen in a long while. So I feel very happy x

Bit worried about mine. The Britax first class fits a bit strange rear facing in our car. It's the right make for the car (checked on the britax website) but it seems to move in ours. Also the seatbelt fits around it but on the door side, so when you put baby in you have to put her in from the other side and wrench her in horizontally. I personally don't think it's practical for rear facing but would probably be better for forward facing.

if its wobbling on the seat its not fitted right, try pulling the seat forward and making sure the actual seat isn't reclined too much. If that doesn't work take it to halfords and ask them if they will have a look for you :))

Have the front seat back so it's more wedged in, it's just the stupid seatbelt on the door side restricting getting bubs in.

I think I will take it to Halford, cheers for that :D

we moved the seat round to forward facing, reclined and with the front seat pushed back and it's far better, safer and she has a different view!
